Personalized and evidence-based psychotherapy
Hi, I’m Dr. Ashleigh Adams, a licensed psychologist with 10 years of experience in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), emotion regulation, and couples therapy including cognitive processing therapy, prolonged exposure, STAIR, mindfulness, anger management, and CBT for bipolar disorder.
My goal is to make myself obsolete – I will partner with you as you do the hard work, learn difficult skills, and ultimately reach a point of self-sufficiency and confidence so that I’m no longer necessary. I will ask difficult questions, listen, and empower you so that you can create the life that you want to live.
I have extensive experience working with clients with a history of trauma and/or PTSD, using short-term, evidence-based treatments (Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy) in which you set clear goals and have structured homework between sessions. I also love to work with clients in longer term treatment, building up a strong foundational relationship before slowly unpacking complex trauma and the various ways survivors learn to protect themselves over the years. I have experience working with military veterans and civilians with histories of sexual trauma, intimate partner violence, combat trauma, and moral injury.
I have also been a couples therapist for many years; I love being able to help partners heal and move forward together. I am trained in Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy, which emphasizes that both partners must being willing to look inwards, recognize their feelings and try to share with their partner, coupled with learning new ways of communicating. I am particularly invested in helping partners work through the after-effects of trauma and/or sexual and intimacy issues.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to see if we would be a good fit; your comfort with and ability to trust your therapist is the most important factor in you achieving your goals and improving your life!
